My invisible barrier is working in hospitals.

Since the start of my medical studies I have been working at the Maasland hospital in Rotterdam. Immediately after the first few hospital admissions with COVID patients in March, I was asked if I wanted to help in a corona ward. I accepted this offer and have been working in the department since the first lockdown. I don't work as a doctor, but I have to refill cupboards or other similar tasks, for example. It is very difficult for me to see how hard it was for patients and how hard some have fought for their lives. The most difficult thing for me was how a family was destroyed, someone was only allowed to visit once a day. For me personally it was also very tough mentally at the beginning. I have a room in Rotterdam and because I chose to work in the hospital, I was very lonely for the first few months. I felt so helpless that I couldn't see anyone. I got up and went to work, in the evening I went to study and then to bed. The next day it all started all over again and I only saw my colleagues. Studying at home doesn't make it much better, I miss social contacts. After a few months I chose to go back to my parents on the weekends, this is nice! These were tough times for me, but when I think back now I am very happy that I was able to lend a hand!
